On March 20, 2020, the final blade of the Hebei Tangshan Lueting Puti Island 300MW Offshore Wind Farm Demonstration Project was successfully lifted and released, marking the completion of all turbine installations for Hebei's first and the largest offshore wind farm in northern China. Far East contributed its ultimate products and services to support the smooth construction of this project.

It is reported that the project used 100% Far East cables, including wind power-specific encoder cables, bus cables, control line cables, and 20,000 sets of medium- and low-voltage power cable harnesses, totaling over 500 kilometers of copper-core cables, as well as more than 100 kilometers of domestically pioneered low-smoke zero-halogen aluminum-alloy power cables specifically designed for wind turbine towers. Notably, the complete harness solution reduced the customer's overall costs by over 30%.

The entire wind farm is approximately 7.6 km long from north to south and 12.5 km wide from east to west. The water depth in the site area ranges from about 5 to 25 meters. The center of the wind farm site is about 16 km from the coastline, approximately 27 km from Caofeidian Port, about 11 km from the northern edge of the site to the shore, and about 6.8 km from the southern side to the Jingtang Port–Tianjin New Port shipping channel.

Pursuing Excellence, Empowering Key Projects to Achieve World Records

Located in the waters off Lueting County, between Jing Tang Port and Caofeidian Port in Tangshan City, this project is China’s first low-temperature offshore wind farm, providing a successful model for offshore wind development in Hebei Province and for low-temperature offshore wind farms nationwide. This is another key offshore wind turbine project deeply participated in by Far East Cable. In fact, over a decade ago, Far East Cable had already taken a leading position in the wind power cable niche market.

Shanghai Donghai Bridge Wind Farm

Shanghai Lingang Offshore Wind Turbines

In 2009, China's first 3MW offshore wind turbine was successfully installed at the Shanghai Donghai Bridge Wind Farm, marking a historic breakthrough for Chinese offshore wind turbines surpassing the 3MW threshold.

In 2019, the 6.25-172 offshore wind turbine from Shanghai Electric successfully completed its first installation at the Shanghai Lingang Offshore Wind Power Phase I Demonstration Project. This unit is the most powerful offshore wind turbine in the Shanghai region and also the world's largest installed offshore wind turbine in terms of rotor diameter.

For both of these groundbreaking milestones in China's wind power history, the cable sets used within the wind turbines were provided by Far East Cable Co., Ltd., a wholly-owned subsidiary of Far East Smart Energy Co., Ltd. (referred to as: Smart Energy, Stock Code: 600869).

In 2019, Far East successfully developed Asia’s first 66kV high-voltage torsion-resistant flexible cable for offshore wind turbines of 8MW and above. This achievement marked another major breakthrough for Far East in the design and manufacturing of high-voltage torsion-resistant flexible cables for large-capacity offshore wind turbines, following its earlier success with 35kV medium-voltage versions.

Industry Experience, Establishing Far East as China's Largest Wind Power Cable Supplier

As a leading enterprise in China's cable industry, Far East leveraged its strong technical research and manufacturing capabilities to enter the wind power sector as early as 2002, investing heavily in advanced equipment to develop specialized cables suitable for wind power environments.

Over the years, Far East has independently developed torsion-resistant cables rated at 0.6/1kV, 1.8/3kV, 3.3/6kV, 12/20kV, 21/35kV, 26/35kV, and 36/66kV, as well as aluminum-alloy tower cables for wind turbines. The torsion-resistant cables feature excellent performance in low-temperature torsion resistance, low-temperature bending, moisture resistance, cold resistance, salt fog resistance, oil resistance, and UV resistance. The aluminum-alloy tower cables are lightweight and offer cold resistance, salt fog resistance, flame retardancy, oil resistance, and UV resistance.

Among these, the 1kV aluminum-alloy power cable specifically designed for wind turbine towers can achieve procurement costs 40% lower than copper cables and save over 30% in installation and construction costs, all while maintaining equivalent electrical performance, making it a green product that supports energy conservation and emissions reduction.

The outstanding performance of these products has gained consistent recognition from customers worldwide. Eight of the world’s top ten wind turbine manufacturers are long-term customers of Far East, and Far East has been listed as a global supplier for Siemens Gamesa, NORDEX, VESTAS, and GE.

In addition to domestic projects, Far East cables are widely used in wind power projects in countries such as the United States, South Korea, Thailand, and India. Today, Far East has become the largest wind power cable supplier in China and the third-largest globally, accounting for over 30% of supply volume.
