Xinhua News Agency's latest report: As of October 2023, the cumulative power generation of the Baihetan Hydropower Station on the Jinsha River, which Far East participated in constructing, has exceeded 100 billion kWh. This is equivalent to saving approximately 30.07 million tons of standard coal and reducing carbon dioxide emissions by about 82.4 million tons. A steady stream of "green" clean energy is being transmitted to regions such as Jiangsu and Zhejiang, ensuring the electricity needs for economic development and livelihood in the Yangtze River Delta region. The keywords "green clean energy", "dual carbon", and "technological innovation" are gradually becoming synonymous with Far East Cable's products and services.
Notably, after participating in several "green super artery" projects, Far East Cable has once again won the bid for the country's first UHV transmission channel mainly dedicated to clean energy transmission—the Ningxia-Hunan ±800 kV UHV DC New Construction Project (referred to as: Ningxiang DC Project). This project is also a key example of Far East's commitment to achieving "dual carbon" goals and implementing the "ESG concept".
According to relevant plans, the Ningxiang DC Project starts from the sending-end converter station in Zhongwei City, Ningxia, and ends at the receiving-end converter station in Hengyang City, Hunan. It passes through six provinces (autonomous regions, municipalities) including Ningxia, Gansu, Shaanxi, Chongqing, Hubei, and Hunan. The total length of the line is 1634.3 km, with a transmission capacity of 8 million kW, a rated delivery power of 8000 MW, a rated DC voltage of ±800 kV, and a rated DC current of 5000 A. The project is also equipped with 4.64 million kW of thermal power and 13 million kW of new energy. This is another national key clean energy product service project that Far East participated in after the Sichuan-Chongqing UHV AC Project (Garze-Tianfu South 1000 kV Line Project) earlier this year. It is understood that the conductor laying for this project will officially begin in April 2024.
Jiang Chengzhi, Party Secretary and Executive Chairman of the Board and CEO of Far East Holding Group, who also serves as the Industry Chairman, stated in an interview with the media: "Innovation is the inexhaustible driving force for enterprise development. Over the years, we have continuously refined our market layout in niche segments, nurturing industry-leading products. The UHV conductors are one of our 'masterpieces'.
As a leader in the cable industry, Far East Cable has accumulated rich experience in the design, R&D, and laying of UHV cables, continuously achieving technological breakthroughs and solving multiple critical challenges. These include large cross-sectional area conductors of 1250m㎡ series, low wind pressure conductors, carbon fiber composite core high elongation heat-resistant aluminum alloy conductors, carbon fiber composite core high elongation hard aluminum conductors, and high conductivity aluminum stranded wire with aluminum alloy cores. Far East provides comprehensive, full-cycle services such as plan design, product selection, installation guidance, and on-site testing for China's UHV project construction.
It is reported that Far East's series of UHV cables have been successfully applied to more than 30 UHV transmission lines including the "Baihetan-Jiangsu ±800 kV UHV DC Project", "Weifang-Linyi-Zaozhuang-Heze-Shijiazhuang 1000 kV UHV AC Project", "Qinghai-Henan, Northern Shaanxi-Wuhan ±800 kV UHV DC Project", and "Yazhong-Jiangxi ±800 kV UHV DC Transmission Line Project". These projects cover 16 provinces including Guangdong, Inner Mongolia, Jiangsu, and Xinjiang, achieving large-capacity, low-loss, high-safety, efficient, and long-distance power transmission.
To date, all lines are operating well, supporting the quality of materials required to meet the requirements of "successful initial operation and long-term safe operation", with user feedback being positive.
