Recently, the final‑section conductor erection of the key national power project — Yanwei UHV Project has been completed, marking the full commissioning of China’s first provincial‑level UHV dual‑loop power grid in Shandong. Far East Smart Energy Co., Ltd. (hereinafter referred to as FESC, Stock Code: 600869) participated in the project, supporting the construction of the “power expressway” for outward transmission of green power from the Jiaodong Peninsula.

The 1000 kV Yanwei UHV Project features a total line length of 1197 km, passing through five cities: Yantai, Qingdao, Rizhao, Weifang and Linyi. It serves as a critical transmission corridor for new‑energy power output from the Jiaodong Peninsula. A 1000 kV UHV AC loop grid was already built in western Shandong. With the newly‑built loop on the Jiaodong Peninsula interconnected with the existing one, a “day‑shaped” dual‑loop structure is formed. Thus, Shandong has established China’s first provincial‑level UHV dual‑loop grid architecture.

The project construction represents a tough uphill battle against tight schedules and harsh conditions. The sea‑crossing section posed the greatest construction difficulty. Seventeen transmission towers had to be erected on coastal tidal flats and two 5.6‑kilometer‑long overhead lines spanned across the sea. Long‑term erosion from seawater and salt spray, as well as frequent severe convective weather, brought unprecedented challenges rarely encountered in previous UHV construction projects.

As a leading enterprise in UHV cables, Far East Cable, a subsidiary of FESC, took part in this project and supplied high‑performance high‑conductivity steel‑core aluminum conductors for the project.

Far East’s high‑conductivity steel‑core aluminum conductor is a national single‑champion product in the manufacturing industry certified by the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology. Tailored for long‑distance power transmission scenarios across mountains and seas, it delivers high tensile strength, low power loss and superior corrosion resistance. Compared with conventional conductors, it cuts transmission losses by approximately 3 %, effectively reducing line loss, boosting long‑distance power transmission efficiency and lowering line operation costs. Specially designed for UHV and large‑capacity transmission lines, it boasts outstanding electrical and mechanical properties. Up to now, such products have been deployed on more than 30 UHV transmission lines including Baihetan‑Jiangsu, Changji‑Guquan and Xinjiang‑Chongqing power transmission projects, enabling large‑capacity, low‑loss and long‑distance delivery of clean power.

Drawing on over 40 years of R&D experience in cable manufacturing, Far East Cable has for many years been listed among the Top 10 Most Competitive Enterprises in the Global Cable Industry, earning wide recognition for its technical strength and global brand influence. Going forward, Far East will keep advancing technical iteration in the UHV sector, underpinning the construction of new‑type power systems with high‑quality cable products and facilitating the implementation of China’s carbon‑peaking and carbon‑neutrality strategy.

In recent years, clean energy sources such as nuclear power and offshore wind power have witnessed rapid development on Shandong’s Jiaodong Peninsula, turning the region into a key base for power output. By the end of the 15th Five‑Year Plan period, surplus power for outward transmission from this area is expected to exceed 30 GW. The Yanwei UHV Project will be officially completed and put into operation in October. Clean power generated on the Jiaodong Peninsula will then be stably and efficiently delivered via this “power expressway”. It will greatly enhance green‑power supply capacity within Shandong Province and provide more solid power support for local economic and social development.
