UHV Gains Momentum in China‘s 15th Five-Year Plan | Far East — A National Manufacturing Single Champion in the Spotlight

China’s NDRC and NEA have recently called for “moderately advancing grid infrastructure ahead of demand.” During the 15th Five‑Year Plan period (2026–2030), fixed asset investment in the national grid is expected to exceed RMB 5 trillion — an 80% increase over the previous five‑year period — with 15 new UHV DC transmission channels to be added. Changji–Guquan ±1100kV UHV DC Project — the world‘s highest voltage, largest capacity, and longest distance UHV project, setting four world records. Far East broke through key technical barriers in large‑cross‑section energy‑saving conductors, providing full‑cycle support from design to site testing.

Hami–Chongqing ±800kV UHV DC Project (“Xinjiang Power to Chongqing”) — one of China’s first large‑scale transmission projects for “desert‑Gobi‑wasteland” wind‑solar bases. Far East supplied large‑cross‑section conductors with 2% higher conductivity, saving approximately 2,500 kWh per kilometer annually.

Baihetan Hydropower Transmission Project — comprising two ±800kV UHV DC channels to Jiangsu and Zhejiang. Far East‘s high‑conductivity products deliver substantial annual energy savings, enabling clean power from Sichuan and Yunnan to reach eastern China with minimal loss.

Lower Yarlung Tsangpo Hydropower Project — the world’s largest planned hydropower project by installed capacity. Far East has leveraged its experience from previous high‑altitude projects to optimize its UHV conductor technology for the extreme elevation and terrain conditions.

As UHV moves from planning to capacity expansion and from “availability” to “quality excellence,” demands for transmission efficiency, loss reduction, and extreme‑environment adaptability continue to rise.
