The pile installation of the heaviest single-pile foundation for the high-profile Shenquan II Offshore Wind Power Project in Guangdong Province has been completed. Far East Cable Co., Ltd., a subsidiary of Far East Smarter Energy Co., Ltd. (hereinafter referred to as "Far East Smarter Energy", stock code: 600869), will supply the 36/66kV high-voltage torsion-resistant flexible cables required for 11-megawatt offshore wind turbines, contributing Far East's expertise to the construction of a 10-gigawatt offshore wind power base in eastern Guangdong and the development of large-scale offshore wind power in China.

Recently, news such as "China's Heaviest Single Pile" and the "Magic Needle" of wind power have gone viral online. This refers to the 10th pile foundation of the 350MW Shenquan II Offshore Wind Power Project in Jieyang City, Guangdong Province (hereinafter referred to as the "Shenquan II Project"), which is also the largest and heaviest single pile in China to date.

As the first approved offshore wind power project in eastern Guangdong during the 14th Five-Year Plan period, the Shenquan II Project is one of China's first batch of grid-parity offshore wind power projects and the offshore wind power project with the largest single-unit capacity in Guangdong Province. It plans to install 16 sets of 8MW and 34 sets of 11MW wind turbines. Among them, all 34 large-capacity 11MW wind turbines are equipped with 36/66kV ultra-large high-voltage torsion-resistant flexible cables developed and produced by Far East Cable.

The huge blades impose extremely high requirements on the strength of the tower and the drive units of the pitch system. Meanwhile, high power means greater pressure on power transmission. Developed over three years, Far East Cable's ultra-large high-voltage torsion-resistant flexible cable not only solves the challenges of torsion and high voltage resistance during the operation of high-power offshore wind turbines, but also extends the service life under harsh working conditions while ensuring cable strength through the company's proprietary ultra-clean continuous production technology for insulating materials, further reducing process losses and significantly improving product quality.

From drafting, design, testing, and pilot production to manufacturing, supporting, and installation, the 36/66kV ultra-large high-voltage torsion-resistant flexible cable has been granted a number of related invention patents, leading the industry by a wide margin and meeting the stringent operational requirements of wind turbines. The successful re-application of this product in high-power offshore wind turbines marks Far East Cable's strong technological advantages in offshore wind power supporting facilities and lays a solid foundation for the full-scale layout of marine cables.

Seeking Strength from the Sea, Marching into the Deep Blue

China has a coastline of over 18,000 kilometers and abundant offshore resources. Adjacent to the high electricity load areas in the southeast coastal regions, offshore wind power facilitates energy consumption and has become a crucial strategic development path for China's energy transition during the 14th Five-Year Plan period.

To better adapt to market and customer demands, Far East Cable has devoted itself to research and development, targeting the complex operating environment, high voltage resistance, and frequent torsion characteristics of high-voltage torsion-resistant cables for offshore wind power.

In terms of design, 66kV high-performance EPR insulation materials and customized structural design are adopted, effectively reducing insulation thickness and cable weight.

In terms of performance, it delivers superior mechanical and electrical properties.

After enduring 2,000 torsion cycles of ±1080° at -40°C, the cable shows partial discharge ≤ 5Pc at 54kV and withstands power frequency withstand voltage of 90kV for 30 minutes without breakdown;

After enduring 10,000 torsion cycles of ±1080° at room temperature, the cable shows partial discharge ≤ 5Pc at 54kV and withstands power frequency withstand voltage of 90kV for 30 minutes without breakdown;

In terms of certification, it has successfully passed tests by authoritative third-party institutions, filling the domestic technological gap in high-voltage torsion-resistant flexible cables for large-capacity offshore wind turbines.

Notably, the technical specification TICW22-2022 Torsion-Resistant Flexible Cables for Wind Power Generation with Rated Voltage 66kV (Um=72.5kV), formulated with the participation of Far East Cable, has been officially issued. It plays a positive role in cable selection and safe operation of high-power offshore wind turbines, demonstrating Far East Cable's leading position in the R&D of 66kV high-voltage torsion-resistant flexible cables.

Thirty-seven years of trials and tribulations, innovation never stops. As a global leader in the cable industry, Far East Cable will continue to drive China's wind power industry towards the "deep blue" with core independent intellectual property rights. Currently, Far East Cable is developing a 110kV high-voltage torsion-resistant cable, which is expected to complete testing by the end of 2022. By then, it will become the offshore wind power torsion-resistant flexible cable with the highest voltage level in the world, further consolidating its leading position in the wind power cable industry.

Relying on strong technological R&D and manufacturing capabilities, Far East Cable is one of China's largest wind power cable suppliers. It has established cooperation and supply relationships with international wind turbine manufacturers such as VESTAS, GE Wind Energy, Siemens Gamesa, and domestic manufacturers including Goldwind Science & Technology, Envision Energy, Guangdong Mingyang, Shanghai Electric, and Windey. Related products have been applied in many countries and regions such as China, Chile, Spain, South Korea, the United States, and India, providing strong support for wind turbines and winning unanimous praise from customers.

In the future, China's offshore wind power construction will move towards far seas, deep waters, and high-power turbines. Far East Cable will continue to increase R&D investment, and deploy the R&D of marine cables and installation technologies, further promoting the development of the offshore wind power industrial chain, boosting China's energy reform and transformation, and supporting the achievement of the "30·60" Dual Carbon Goals.
