On May 9, 2019, Shanghai Electric’s 6.25‑172 offshore wind turbine was successfully hoisted as the first unit of the Phase I Demonstration Project of Shanghai Lingang Offshore Wind Power. As the most powerful offshore wind turbine in Shanghai, it also boasted the largest rotor diameter among all offshore wind turbines installed worldwide at that time. The successful hoisting marked Shanghai’s return to the forefront of China’s offshore wind power sector after a six‑year gap. On March 20, 2009, China’s first 3MW offshore wind turbine, supplied by Sinovel Wind Group, was successfully hoisted in one go at the Shanghai Donghai Bridge Wind Farm, representing a historic breakthrough of 3MW for China’s offshore wind turbines.

For these two groundbreaking milestones in China’s wind power history, the cable kits used in the wind turbines were all supplied by Far East Cable Co., Ltd., a wholly‑owned subsidiary of Far East Smarter Energy Co., Ltd. (abbreviated as Smarter Energy, stock code: 600869). As a leading enterprise in China’s cable industry, Far East Cable entered the wind power sector as early as 2002. It independently developed torsion‑resistant cables, aluminum alloy tower cables and other special products for wind turbines with voltage ratings including 0.6/1kV, 1.8/3kV, 3.3/6kV, 12/20kV, 21/35kV and 26/35kV. The torsion‑resistant cables feature low‑temperature torsion resistance, low‑temperature bending resistance, moisture resistance, cold resistance, salt spray resistance, oil resistance and UV resistance. The aluminum alloy tower cables are characterized by cold resistance, salt spray resistance, flame retardancy, oil resistance, UV resistance and light weight.
Far East has invested heavily in introducing advanced equipment to develop special cables suitable for wind power environments. With 18 years of experience in the design and manufacturing of wind power cables, as well as excellent product quality and services, it has become the largest wind power cable supplier in China and the third largest in the world, accounting for over 30% of the market supply. Eight of the world’s top 10 wind turbine manufacturers are long‑term customers of Far East, and the company has been selected as a global supplier by Siemens Gamesa, NORDEX, VESTAS and GE.
Far East Smarter Energy also focuses on four core businesses: smart cables and power products, smart airport/energy system services, intelligent vehicle power and energy storage systems, and industrial internet. Far East’s products and solutions have been applied in a large number of key national projects, including the Hong Kong‑Zhuhai‑Macao Bridge, Shanghai World Financial Center, China Zun, Hualong One, Central Tibet Power Grid Interconnection Project, Yangtze River Bridge, Beijing Daxing International Airport, and Baihetan Hydropower Station.
