On March 20, 2020, the hoisting of the last blade was successfully completed for the 300MW demonstration project of the Putidao Offshore Wind Farm in Leting, Tangshan, Hebei Province, marking the full completion of hoisting for the first offshore wind farm in Hebei and the largest one in northern China. Far East supported the smooth construction of this project with superior products and services.

It is reported that 100% of the cables used in this project are supplied by Far East, including 20,000 sets of special wind power encoder cables, bus cables, control signal cables, and medium & low voltage power cable harnesses, totaling more than 500 kilometers of copper-core cables, as well as over 100 kilometers of domestically pioneered low-smoke zero-halogen aluminum alloy power cables dedicated to wind turbine towers. Notably, the complete set of cable harness solutions helped the customer reduce overall costs by more than 30%.
The wind farm stretches about 7.6 km from north to south and 12.5 km from east to west. The water depth in the site area is about 5 to 25 meters. The center of the wind farm site is about 16 km from the shoreline, about 27 km from Caofeidian Port, the northern section is about 11 km from the shoreline, and the southern side is about 6.8 km from the Jingtang Port–Tianjin Xingang Channel.
Striving for Perfection to Support Key Projects to Achieve World-Class Status
Located in the waters of Leting County between Jingtang Port and Caofeidian Port in Tangshan City, this project is China's first low-temperature offshore wind farm, providing a successful model for offshore wind power development in Hebei Province and low-temperature offshore wind farms nationwide. It is another key offshore wind turbine project deeply involved by Far East Cable. As early as more than a decade ago, Far East Cable had been at the forefront of the wind power cable segment.
In 2009, China's first 3MW offshore wind turbine was successfully hoisted at the Shanghai Donghai Bridge Wind Farm, marking a historic breakthrough of 3MW for China's offshore wind turbines.
In 2019, the Shanghai Electric 6.25-172 offshore wind turbine was successfully hoisted for the first phase demonstration project of Shanghai Lingang Offshore Wind Power. This unit is the most powerful offshore wind turbine in Shanghai and also the offshore wind turbine with the largest impeller diameter ever hoisted in the world.
For these two breakthrough feats in China's wind power history, the cable kits used in the wind turbines were all provided by Far East Cable Co., Ltd., a wholly-owned subsidiary of Far East Smarter Energy Co., Ltd. (Smarter Energy, Stock Code: 600869).
In 2019, Far East successfully trial-produced Asia's first 66kV high-voltage torsion-resistant flexible cable for offshore wind turbines of 8MW and above. Following the 35kV medium-voltage wind power torsion-resistant flexible cable, this is another major breakthrough for Far East in the design and manufacturing of high-voltage torsion-resistant flexible cables for large-capacity offshore wind turbines.
Industry Accumulation Makes Far East China's Largest Wind Power Cable Supplier
As a leading enterprise in China's cable industry, relying on strong technological R&D and manufacturing capabilities, Far East took the lead in entering the wind power sector as early as 2002, investing heavily in introducing advanced equipment to fully develop special cables suitable for wind power environments.
Over the years, Far East has independently developed special torsion cables and aluminum alloy tower cables for wind turbines with rated voltages of 0.6/1kV, 1.8/3kV, 3.3/6kV, 12/20kV, 21/35kV, 26/35kV, and 36/66kV. The torsion cables feature low-temperature torsion resistance, low-temperature bending resistance, moisture resistance, cold resistance, salt spray resistance, oil resistance, and UV resistance. The aluminum alloy tower cables boast cold resistance, salt spray resistance, flame retardancy, oil resistance, UV resistance, and light weight.
Among them, the 1kV rated voltage aluminum alloy power cable dedicated to wind turbine towers can achieve a 40% lower procurement cost and over 30% savings in installation costs compared with copper cables under the same electrical performance, making it a green product for energy conservation and emission reduction.
The excellent product performance has been unanimously recognized by customers at home and abroad. Eight of the world's top 10 wind turbine manufacturers are long-term customers of Far East, which has also been listed as a global supplier by Siemens Gamesa, NORDEX, VESTAS, and GE.
In addition to domestic projects, Far East cables are also widely used in wind power projects in the United States, South Korea, Thailand, India and other countries. Today, Far East has become the largest wind power cable supplier in China and the third largest in the world, accounting for more than 30% of the supply volume.
