On November 20, 2021, the diversion tunnel gate of the Karot Hydropower Project in Pakistan, invested and constructed by China Three Gorges Corporation (hereinafter referred to as "CTG"), was successfully closed for water storage as scheduled, laying a solid foundation for the commissioning of all units in the first half of 2022.
As a leading enterprise in the cable industry, Far East Cable Co., Ltd., a wholly-owned subsidiary of Far East Smarter Energy Co., Ltd. (Far East Energy, Stock Code: 600869), participated in the construction of the Karot Hydropower Project. It signed a cooperation agreement with Three Gorges Tech-Economic Development Co., Ltd. under CTG, providing high-quality technical services and solution support for the project to promote its high-quality construction.

The Karot Hydropower Project is located upstream of the Karot Bridge in Punjab Province, Pakistan, 74 km downstream from the Mangla Dam and approximately 55 km west of Islamabad in a straight line. It is a power-generation-oriented project with comprehensive benefits including flood control, sediment interception, improvement of downstream navigation conditions, and development of reservoir navigation. With a total installed capacity of 720,000 kilowatts and a total investment of 1.74 billion US dollars, it is the first hydropower investment project under the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor and the first hydropower project included in the joint statement of the two governments.
In April 2015, the project broke ground with the witness of leaders from both countries. Over the past six years, the project constructors overcame a series of difficulties and challenges, achieving major milestones such as river closure, powerhouse capping, and rotor hoisting of the first unit. Especially since the outbreak of the global COVID-19 pandemic in early 2020, a large number of "retrograde heroes" and frontline workers have stayed at the construction site for a long time to overcome difficulties and ensure the smooth progress of the project.
Upon completion, the Karot Project will generate an average of 3.2 billion kWh of electricity annually, providing competitive clean energy supply for Pakistan, meeting the electricity demand of 5 million local people, and effectively alleviating Pakistan's power shortage. After all units are put into operation, it is expected to save about 1.4 million tons of standard coal and reduce carbon dioxide emissions by about 3.5 million tons per year, promoting Pakistan's energy construction and economic and social development while contributing to the global "carbon neutrality" goal.
As a large-scale hydropower project, the construction of the Karot Hydropower Project is inseparable from the support of a large number of supporting enterprises. Especially leading enterprises, which have a certain position in their respective fields, have more advantageous products than similar ones, and better meet the project's pursuit of high quality. For example, wires and cables are related to the power supply safety of the project; once problems occur with the products, the consequences will be unpredictable.
As an enterprise deeply engaged in the cable industry for 36 years, Far East Cable has always been committed to the R&D, production and sales of high-end and high-quality cables. It has continuously invested in and improved product R&D, lived up to customers' expectations, won wide recognition and praise, and was honored to be affirmed by the project owner and participate in the project construction.
The Karot Hydropower Project is the first overseas cooperation between Far East Cable and CTG, but not the first cooperation. Before that, the two sides had established a good cooperative relationship, and Far East Cable's products were deeply recognized and trusted by CTG. Thanks to this cooperation foundation, Far East Cable once again participated in the construction of the Karot Hydropower Project and became the cable supplier of the project.

Due to the tight schedule and heavy tasks, to meet the urgent construction period requirements, Far East Cable tried every means to overcome all difficulties, always served as a reliable supporter for customers, worked overtime for production, and delivered goods to the Karot Project construction site at the fastest speed, strongly supporting the project construction and winning praise from the project owner.
In fact, Far East Cable has participated in many key projects at home and abroad, such as national key projects including the Three Gorges Power Transmission Project, Shanghai World Expo Project, Shanghai World Financial Center, Hainan Wenchang Satellite Launch Center, Jiuquan Satellite Launch Center, "Tiangong-2", "Shenzhou-11" aerospace projects, and the "Changji-Guquan ±1100kV" UHVDC transmission project, as well as overseas projects including the Bali Island Project in Indonesia, Manila Photovoltaic Power Station Project in the Philippines, New Energy Project in Equatorial Guinea, and Cachi Hydropower Station in Costa Rica. With excellent technology and high-quality products, it has become a model of Chinese brand export, adding a brilliant chapter to Far East's achievements.
Jiang Xipei, Founder, Chairman of the Board and Secretary of the Party Committee of Far East Holding Group, has mentioned many times: "Entrepreneurs should resonate with the country, bravely undertake entrepreneurial responsibilities, provide high-quality products and services for society, and actively practice the national strategic goals of high-quality and sustainable development." Guided by such corporate culture, Far East Cable actively responds to the "Belt and Road" initiative, uses advanced technology and products to participate in major livelihood projects, and benefits the people.
In the future, Far East Cable will continuously improve itself, continue to deepen the international market, create international-standard products and services, and continuously enhance the visibility and reputation of the Far East brand in the international market.
